Core Kiteboarding the Brand
Core Kiteboarding is originally a German brand. Located in one of Europe's hotspots, Fehmarn, Core Kiteboarding develops market-leading kites, kiteboards, foils, and accessories. The company began as a producer of custom kiteboards under the name Carved in 2001, making them one of the first kiteboard manufacturers in the world at that time. They always strive to deliver the highest quality, which is why they eventually moved to the sister company ELAN in Slovenia. ELAN is one of the most modern production facilities for skis and yachts in Europe. Due to the success of the Carved business, Core Kiteboarding was established in 2007. Core Kiteboarding provides kites, bars, boards, and foils under the Core Kiteboarding brand. With over 20 years of experience, Core Kiteboarding knows how to use the most exclusive materials in combination with innovative production processes to ensure the best quality. What sets Core apart is that they don't release a new range of kites every year but do so every two years. Core Kiteboarding only introduces a new kite when it has genuinely improved and has been thoroughly tested. Core Kiteboarding offers a wide range of distinctive kites like the Core XR, Core Nexus, Core GTS, and kiteboards like the Core Choice and the Core Fusion.
Core Kiteboarding History
As early as the late '90s, founder and CEO Bernie Hiss took one of the first prototypes of four-line kites to the water. However, this was not the product he would start with in the kitesurfing industry. In 2001, Bernie Hiss began the production of kitesurf twintip boards in Fehmarn under the name Carved Customs, in the building where Core and Carved are still located today. As one of the first kiteboard manufacturers, the boards were handcrafted with the (then) highest quality materials. To maintain the quality of products, including kiteboards, they eventually moved to the sister company ELAN. ELAN is one of the most modern production facilities for skis and yachts in Europe.
In the spring of 2007, Bernie introduced his first Core/Carved kite, the Carved DNA. Even then, the emphasis on developing Core kites was on performance, comfort, safety, and quality. These core values remain central to Core Kiteboarding to this day. Over the years, several kites were added to the kite range, and even the very first Core kite, the Riot, was discontinued. The Core Kiteboarding range now includes XR/XR Pro, Nexus, GTS, Section, XLITE, and Impact, as well as a separate kiteboard and surfboard line under the name Core, featuring models like the Core Choice and the Core Fusion. Core's kites and kiteboards cater to everyone, from pro’s to beginners, wave riders to kiteloop enthusiasts.
Core is now one of the leading kite manufacturers in the world. You can spot a Core kite with the characteristic black and white color combination on any kite spot. These kites remain incredibly stable in the air and are designed by the best kite designers in the industry. In addition to the Core team, the Carved team plays a significant role in designing, developing, and producing Core kitesurf kites. This collaboration has formed a large team with a wealth of technical knowledge. The technical team works with the world's best kitesurfers, such as Willow River, Joshua Emanuel, and Steven Akkersdijk, to tailor the kites to the high demands of the team riders.
Core kites are developed and initially tested at the Core headquarters in Fehmarn. Fehmarn is a small sunny island in the Baltic Sea known for its frequent winds, and the Core office is just 10 minutes from the beach—a perfect place for testing kites. The boards by Core and Carved are produced in Germany and Austria. Core kites are manufactured in Sri Lanka, meeting European quality standards. In a short period of time, Core has evolved from a small kite brand in Germany to one of the largest and best kite brands in the world.

Core Kiteboarding Development
The 'high-tech' products of Core Kiteboarding didn't come around by chance. Developing these products required innovation and development, with materials being the building blocks of high-performance kites. We're extremely curious about the developments that the coming years will bring and what Core Kiteboarding will contribute. Here are brief descriptions of some of Core's unique materials and techniques:
Core Kiteboarding PRO-series
One of Core Kiteboarding's latest product lines is the Pro-range. These products feature the well-known Aluula material. So far, Aluula is used in the Core XR Pro. The Leading Edge and Struts in the frame are made of Aluula, significantly reducing the diameter of the LE and Struts to achieve lightning-fast kite speeds. Thanks to the lightweight Aluula frame, the kite is faster, more responsive, and remains more stable in the air than ever before. Regardless of how gusty the wind is, the Aluula Frame keeps the kite rock-solid in the sky. Aluula is much lighter than Dacron. Compared to the 'normal' Core XR, the Core XR Pro is 10% lighter in weight.
Coretex 2 Triple Ripstop Canopy
Coretex 2 is the fabric Core uses in its kites. The fabric has a low stretch factor and is quite robust. It ensures that the kite releases its power evenly and provides excellent stability. The fabric receives a coating that better protects it from tears and UV radiation from the sun.
ExoTex Light Struts
The lighter Dacron has a unique thread pattern and a protective coating, reducing the mass of the struts by 10%. ExoTex enhances drift and turning speeds, giving the kite slightly more all-around characteristics. The Leading Edge uses the new ExoTex2.
GrinTex Patches
Anti-wear patches are used on areas that quickly wear out due to kite crashes. These patches are located on seams, the Leading Edge, and the ends of the struts, allowing you to crash your kite worry-free.
The Core XR is the jewel of Core Kiteboarding. This 5-strut machine is known as the ultimate big air kite and guarantees personal WOO or SURFR records. The XR is also available in an Aluula version: The XR Pro that extracts even more performance from the kite and even breaks world records!
The Core GTS has been the all-rounder of Core Kiteboarding for years. Wave, freestyle, or freeride, the GTS did it all!
The Core Nexus is currently the all-around kite in Core Kiteboarding's lineup. With its three struts, the kite is perfect for freeride, freestyle, foil, and even kiteloops!
Core Kiteboarding also offers a pure wave kite. The Core Section is a 3-strut pure wave kite. Whether it's choppy conditions or a stunning point break, the Core Section excels in strapless surfing.
Core Kiteboarding recently added the Core XLITE to its lineup. The XLITE is a very lightweight (30% lighter than the Nexus) single-strut kite, perfect for foiling.
Core kiteboarding kiteboards
Core Kiteboarding isn't just incredibly skilled at designing and refining kites. In recent years, Core Kiteboarding has built up a wide range of kiteboards. These kiteboards are developed with the latest innovations and technical features, which are certainly noticeable on the water. Core collaborates with Carved Customs, known for their renowned Imperator, a full carbon kiteboard that delivers astonishing performance. Core also produces kiteboards in-house, like the Core Fusion. These kiteboards are crafted from top-quality materials and feature the latest innovations. For instance, CARTAN 2 carbon is used in the kiteboards, providing a stiffer flex, more grip, and a playful feel on the water. Core Kiteboarding's product lineup includes the Core Choice, known for its flexibility and comfortable performance in choppy conditions. Whether you're looking for twin-tip kiteboards or surfboard directionals, Core Kiteboarding has a suitable kiteboard for every level of kitesurfer.
