A kite is a substantial investment, and you naturally want to be well-informed. On this page, you can read everything about the kitesurf brand Ozone Kiteboarding: how it became the brand it is today, what its mission is, and more. If you have further questions about the kitesurf brand Ozone and Ozone Kiteboarding products, you can always get in touch via phone, email, or WhatsApp.

Ozone Kiteboarding the Brand

Ozone is one of the world's leading companies in the production and development of kitesurfing kites, paragliders, paramotors, speed wings, land kites, snow kites, and even more recently, wingsuits. By developing such a wide range of flying equipment, Ozone has amassed an unparalleled amount of knowledge and possesses the latest technologies related to kites. This expertise is reflected in the kites that Ozone produces. Ozone doesn't create products solely for external consumers and kitesurfers; instead, they prioritize products they themselves, as kitesurfers and extreme sports enthusiasts, find reliable and of the highest quality—equipment they prefer to use every day. The development of Ozone kites springs from an intrinsic passion within the entire Ozone team. Ozone Kiteboarding's mission is to elevate the kitesurfing sport to a higher level with each new kite they release through technical innovation and intensive R&D. At Ozone, the product takes center stage.

The Ozone Kiteboarding research and development team consists of individuals who are more than just designers; they are kitesurfers themselves, who, just like you, relish being on the water with the best kitesurfing gear. This unique blend of experience and design expertise allows Ozone to infuse perfection into Ozone kites. It goes to the extent that Ozone Kiteboarding speaks of the 'Ozone feeling.' The sensation you experience when flying an Ozone kite or riding an Ozone board is beyond description.

Ozone Kiteboarding Development

Ozone has years of experience in the production, development, and continuous improvement of kites, kiteboards, and related accessories. Naturally, this journey was not without its challenges, and Ozone underwent an extensive process concerning new products and innovations. Before Ozone fully committed to the kitesurfing sport, they decided to first establish themselves in the snow kitesurfing market with high-end foil kites. This endeavor took off rapidly, and Ozone soon realized the necessity for their own factory to produce all Ozone kites with the high quality standards they demand from their products. In 2001, Ozone inaugurated its own factory in Vietnam, where, to this day, all their kites, including paragliders and kitesurf kites, are manufactured. An additional advantage of producing in their own fully controlled factory is that they are not bound by production cycles of 4 to 6 months, allowing Ozone to produce their improved kites only when they are entirely satisfied. Over time, Ozone also began manufacturing kites with an inflatable Leading Edge. Some examples include the Ozone Edge, Catalyst, C4, and Reo, each tailored for specific kitesurfing target audiences.

One of the elements of the Ozone brand they are most proud of is the R&D department. All kites, as well as paragliders and everything Ozone manufactures, are designed by highly experienced riders and instructors. And it hasn't gone without results. Consider Andy Yates, who became the kitesurfing world champion in 2010 using the Ozone C4 and is still involved in the development of kites and boards. Besides winning the freestyle world championship, Ozone is primarily prominent in the racing segment of the kitesurfing sport. This is due to Ozone's ability to develop highly effective and stable kites. Within this racing segment, Ozone is consistently featured in the lineup for the race with various inflatable kites, such as the Ozone Edge, as well as foilkites like the Ozone Chrono and R1. This has certainly proven to be successful, resulting in multiple victories in the racing segment, both in twintip and hydrofoil, using Ozone kites.

Ozone Kiteboarding History

Ozone originated as a paragliding brand founded by Mike Cavanagh, David Pilkington, Rob Whittall, and Bruce Goldsmith, all of whom were exceptional designers and innovators in the industry. In 2001, when Matthew Taggart joined the team, Ozone Kites LTD was born. The first design introduced to the market by Ozone was the 'Little Devil,' a traction foil kite that was perfect for when the wind was too strong for paragliding. At the end of 2001, Ozone opened its own factory in Vietnam, where kites, paragliders, and all related accessories were manufactured. In 2002, the first dedicated snowkite, the Frenzy, was launched. It was an easy-to-fly kite that offered stability, de-powering, and easy relaunching. This kite became an iconic snow kite and initiated a completely new sport. In 2004, Ozone introduced the Ozone Manta. The Mantra was the first high-performance open-cell foil kite and the signature model of Olympic snowboarder and X-Games winner Giuaullme Chastagnol, aka 'Chasta.'

In 2006, Ozone introduced its first inflatable kite to the market, the Instinct. This 5-line kite was designed by David Pilkington and tested by Matt in Vietnam, just a two-hour drive from the factory. The Instinct was the first kite with a 'flat bridled design' without pulleys in the kite or the bar. In late 2007, Ozone launched an improved version of the original Instinct, the Instinct Edge. The Instinct Edge became one of Ozone's most successful performance kites. In 2008, the Instinct was changed from 5 lines to 4 lines. In 2008, Ozone introduced the Megatron, the first 'injection-molded' safety release on the market. The bar had no quick release above the chicken loop, but on the loop itself. Also in 2008, the first Ozone Catalyst was introduced. The Catalyst was the first freeride kite, a three-strutter perfect for beginners and advanced riders, and it could even be used in the waves with a directional board. Following the Ozone Catalyst, the well-known Ozone C4 quickly followed. The C4 was the world's first bridled C-kite and soon became Ozone's best-selling kite. Everyone used the kite for freeride, mega-looping, freestyle, and wave riding. Of course, at this point, a light wind kite was still missing from Ozone's range. This is where the Zephyr was born, quickly setting the benchmark for light wind designs. The wind range of the Zephyr was larger than any other kite at the time.

Ozone kites Today

The Ozone Catalyst was introduced to the market in 2008 and has remained since. The Catalyst is an all-around kite with a wide wind range, plenty of depower, and quick relaunch. The Catalyst is a single-strut kite and perfect for those days when the wind is a bit lighter, ideal for freeriding or foiling.

Next came one of Ozone's most famous kites: the Ozone Edge. The Ozone Edge first appeared in Ozone's lineup in 2011 and has never left the range since. The Ozone Edge is perhaps one of the most successful kites. Originally designed for racing, the Edge has graced the podium during the kite racing world championships in the US. Oh, and 90% of the racers were using an Ozone Edge during that race. Nowadays, the Ozone Edge has transformed into a big air monster and the go-to kite for legends like Ruben Lenten.

At one point, Ozone realized they needed to assist kite schools a bit. This led to the introduction of the Ozone Uno, a single-strut kite that helped schools provide lessons in all conditions. At that time, the Uno was only available in 2.5m and 4m sizes, but today, the Ozone Uno is also available in a 6m size. The Uno is now also used for kite foiling and is perfect for foiling in strong winds thanks to its speed in 25+ knots.

In 2013, Ozone introduced the first Down the Line wave kite, the Ozone Reo. The Ozone Reo provided maximum drift and was described as the ultimate wave ride kite.

A year later, in 2014, the Ozone Enduro was launched. The Ozone Enduro features a three-strut design and is Ozone's ultimate three-strut all-round kite.

In 2018, Ozone introduced the world's first Click-in loop. This Click-in loop was a Quick Release that easily reconnects with a single click.

Ozone kiteboarding kiteboards

The development of kiteboards also doesn't stand still at Ozone. Ozone produces kiteboards of the highest quality and has a kiteboard in its range for every skill level or discipline. For example, the first kiteboard introduced by Ozone was the Ozone Code. An all-around kiteboard suitable for almost every rider level and style. Whether it's freeride, cruising, big air, or unhooked freestyle, the Code is perfect for it. The Ozone Torque is also a beloved kiteboard. The Ozone Torque is the performance freestyle and freeride kiteboard and used to be commonly ridden with boots. Over time, the Ozone Base (beginner's kiteboard), Ozone Infinity (Performance light wind), and Ozone the Plank (school kiteboard) were added to the lineup. Ozone also offers a range of foilboards, such as the Ozone Apex V1, a freeride foilboard.
