Big Air kites at Kitemana

Nowadays, big air has become a massive hype and has grown into the biggest discipline in the sport of kitesurfing in recent years. Today, it's no longer surprising to see riders jumping higher than 25 meters or performing S-loops. To achieve this, big air kites are used. At Kitemana, we have big air kites from all brands in our range. With such a vast selection, it might be challenging to determine which kite suits your preferences. To provide a better understanding of the various big air kites, we have created this page with frequently asked questions so that you know what you're buying. If you still have questions after reading this page, feel free to contact us via WhatsApp, email, phone, or visit our megastore in Noordwijk!

What is the best kite for big air?

There is no such thing as the best kite for big air kitesurfing. At Kitemana, we only stock kites from premium brands that all perform exceptionally well for their intended use. This means that with any kite in the category of our big air kites, you'll improve your personal record on your Woo in no time. For a while, the Woo record holders on the world rankings have been Maarten Haeger (36.2) & Joshua Emanuel (36.2) with their Core XR Pro kites. Kites like the North Orbit also deserve a lot of attention. Right after the first launch of the North Orbit, Jesse Richman won the King of the Air, and Nick Jacobsen came second. However, Kevin Langeree is known for always going the highest, first on his Naish Pivot and now on his Reedin Supermodel, and the Cabrinha Switchblade has also previously won the King of the Air. Choosing a big air kite ultimately comes down to personal preference. At Kitemana, we strive to make choosing a big air kite as easy as possible. If you have questions or need personal advice, feel free to contact us via WhatsApp, email, phone, or visit the store.

Which properties are important for big air kites?

In Big Air, it's all about jumping high and far. That's why stronger winds and storms are the favorite playgrounds for big air kiters. All big air kites should be robust, stable, and resistant to gusty winds. A good big air kite should provide you as a rider with the necessary control to push your limits. Lift and hangtime are also critical features in all big air kites. When your takeoff is perfect, your big air kite will lift you up like an elevator, and if you keep the bar pulled in, the kite won't let you down—or might even take you higher with the next gust! Nowadays, with double loops and S loops, a big air kite must also be fast enough. The ability to handle large megaloops and the quick upward shoot of your kite after a kiteloop are also essential characteristics of a big air kite.

What is the best line length for big air - short lines vs. long lines?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer for every big air kiter. Longer lines in big air kitesurfing, such as lines of 24m or 22m, provide more lift and consistent pull when going airborne. Using longer lines increases your wind window, and your kite (and you) fly higher. This results in higher jumps. Shorter lines, such as lines of 12m, 14m, or 18m, give you a more direct feel for your kite and a more radical pull during maneuvers like kiteloops. Shorter lines are especially suitable for more advanced riders and may result in lower jumps, but they can be a lot of fun if you're aiming for aggressive megaloops. Our recommendation: give it a try and find your ideal line length!

What is the best kite size for Big Air?

The ideal size for your big air session depends on your skills, weight, and the amount of power you want to rip with. Choose a size that you can handle well and control. You won't be pushing your limits if you're overpowered or lacking power. You need to be fully powered if you aim to break your personal record! If you don't have control and can't hold your edge, all that power is worthless. Even professional riders downsize during competitions from a 9m to an 8m or even a 7m kite when the wind picks up. Smaller kites also travel faster through the wind window and literally shoot you up. For most riders, a 7m to 9m kite is perfect.

Are big air kites suitable for beginners?

Some big air kites share some characteristics with all-around kites suitable for beginners. Big air kites are designed to deliver power, which can overwhelm beginners. If you are a beginner and looking for a versatile kite, check out this page. The four key requirements that every beginner's kite must always meet are:
